1:30pm Session
This presentation aims to support those who work with or around children with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and neurodiverse needs. Without proper tools and strategies, well-intentioned adults may inadvertently overlook or misunderstand the unique strengths and challenges of these students, potentially perpetuating inequitable outcomes (Courtenay et al., 2021), or social dynamics that detract from inclusive learning environments. This workshop offers useful relational and assessment strategies for those who come in contact with the wide spectrum of neurodiversity. The intention is to empower adults and kids to build stronger relationships and create spaces where all are appreciated, no matter what needs or idiosyncrasies they carry with them.
About the Presenters

Diana Perry, PsyD, LPC
Regional Trauma Coordinator, Capitol Region Education Council (CREC)
Dr. Diana Perry has experience in systems-level EBP, TIC, and trainer training, and was a group and individual clinician for 12 years serving in Methadone Maintenance Treatment Programs, outpatient clinics, and/or schools in Manhattan, Brooklyn, San Francisco, New Haven, and West Haven. Through these lived experiences, Dr. Perry has developed a firm understanding of the stress and resilience that trauma exposure can produce. She believes that if every level of a system engages in dialogue about trauma exposure & the stress response, then that system will be more capable of prioritizing relationships and practices that are safer and more equitable.
