Cultural Sensitivity: A Framework for Leadership to Provide Culturally Sensitive Supervision

Leaders and supervisors must understand the importance of how to engage supervisees in a culturally sensitive approach and how to apply cultural sensitivity in their supervision. This training seeks to provide an overview of Cultural Sensitivity, including a discussion on the difference between Cultural Sensitivity and Cultural Humility, as well as provide specific strategies for providing culturally sensitive supervision that acknowledges and addresses the intersectionality of supervisees’ identities. Additionally, the training will address issues related to power dynamics, cultural competence, and equity, with the goal of promoting inclusive and culturally responsive practices.

About the Presenter

Jasmine M. McLean, LCSW, M.Ed., Child and Family Guidance Center

Jasmine M. McLean is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, specializing in Culturally Sensitive and Queer Affirming Care. Jasmine received both her Bachelor’s and Master’s in Social Work from the University of Saint Joseph in West Hartford, CT. Jasmine also has a Master’s of Education in Human Sexuality Studies with a focus in Clinical Sex Therapy from Widener University. Jasmine is the Assistant Unit Director of Behavioral Health Services at the Child and Family Guidance Center in Bridgeport, CT, where she oversees the Functional Family Therapy (FFT) program, the Intake Department, Compliance, and the Internship Program. Jasmine is a member of the American Association of Sexuality, Educators, Counselors and Therapist (AASECT) and is working on her AASECT Certification as a Certified Sex Therapist.

Jasmine is also the Co-Founder/Co-Owner of New Streams, LLC, a therapy practice focused on providing Queer Affirming, Sex Positive and culturally sensitive mental health care. Jasmine’s work experience includes in-home work as a former IICAPS clinician and then IICAPS supervisor, former Program Director for Residential treatment facilities for adults with persistent and severe mental illnesses, Eating Disorder treatment in Residential, IOP and PHP settings as well as Outpatient Settings as both a Supervisor and Clinician. Jasmine is a Doctorate Candidate in Social Work at Southern Connecticut State University and plans for her doctoral research to be on Cross-Cultural/Cross-Cultural Supervision and its impact on client’s care and is also an Adjunct Social Work professor at the University of Saint Joseph.
